Woodlands Bible School: Philippians 3 with Tim Dobson

philippians 3

tim dobson

November 22nd 2018 7pm. Strength Bible School - Philippians 3 - Tim Dobson

Content of Chapter 3 v1-11 Earning and Effort Safeguarding - protecting the vulnerable. There are Jewish people insisting that non-Jews (Gentiles) must be circumcised in order to be fully Christian. They were putting confidence in the “flesh” rather than just having simple faith in Jesus. Similar to the situation in Galatia (Gal 3), Paul warns them to keep clear of such people and not circum to their teaching. The word “flesh” in the New Testament can mean “sinful, human nature” or it can mean “human endeavour” as apposed to God’s gracious work. Download Discussion notes

Sustainable: Spiritual Intimacy - Matt Dobson and David Mitchell

November 25th 2018. Spiritual intimacy (Revelation 2:2-4. Revelation 3:20 Luke 24:45-49) Some of us are activists, some of us are contemplatives by nature. Both personality types are vital in the life of God’s people. Sometimes we need to stir up activity. Sometimes however we need to check ourselves and our relationship with our Lord. As we go into a busy Christmas season and as we want to have a strong vision for mission, and city transformation, what is our secret history with our Lord like? Are we working for Him or with Him? Money Talks - Breaking the power of poverty: Disciplines for life - Nigel Savage

November 18th 2018. Breaking the Spirit of Poverty through Spiritual disciplines. Matthew 6. Much of the book of Proverbs!

Nigel challenged us in his sermon to ask whether we were cup half full or cup half empty people. The Spirit of Poverty is not about actual poverty but relative poverty, poverty of the heart. We can feel poor in time, energy, faith or money. How does Jesus address these issues in his teaching and lifestyle? Jesus once described himself as having nowhere to lay his head. Does he come across as in poverty to you? Download Discussion notes
