Woodies Kids | Stories about Jesus

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we Think About…

stories of Jesus

· What is your favourite story of Jesus from the Bible?

· What does that story tell you about Jesus?

· Why do you like it so much?

Family Challenge

Can you ask your parents what their favourite story about Jesus is? Why not read it all together as a family

Spend some time with God. Picture in your head your favourite story about Jesus. Thank God for that story and what it teaches us about Jesus. Ask God “what is your favourite story about me?” or “Do you have a favourite moment in my life?” “Why?”

Woodies Kids | Jesus is Baptised

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we Think About…

Jesus is Baptised

Today we will look at another part of the life of Jesus. Do you remember when we looked at the Christmas story – Mary went to visit her cousin Elisabeth who was also expecting a baby? Well, that baby was John – known as John the Baptist, and he spent his life going around teaching about the One who would come – the Messiah – who do you think that might have been?? Do you know anything else interesting about John the Baptist?

Time To Think

Jesus was baptised, even though He had done nothing wrong, and this confused John, as we heard in the story. In His baptism, Jesus was demonstrating that He was ready to begin the work Father God had for Him to do and that, like us human beings, He too was making Himself humble to be obedient.

Ask how Jesus' baptism was different to other people's baptisms? The Holy Spirit landed on him like a dove. Explain that the Holy Spirit is the way that God lives inside of each of us if we ask him to. He helps us live in the way that God wants us to.

Sometimes, when God speaks to people, it is loud and clear, like the way Father God spoke over Jesus. More often, God speaks to us, or leads us, by His Holy Spirit, in a quiet whispering voice. In the story, the Holy Spirit came down on Jesus like a dove. The same Holy Spirit can come and live in us, helping us to follow God's ways, when we choose to put our trust in Him.

· what do you think about this story?

· which bit did you like the most?

· do you have any questions about the story?

· what might God want to tell us, through this story?

Holy Spirit came on Jesus in a special way in the story – as a dove. The Holy Spirit is God's way of coming to live inside each of us to help us live like he made us to.

Woodies Kids | Jesus in the Temple

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we Think About…

Jesus in the temple

As Jesus grew up, parts of His childhood and His life are recorded in the Bible. These stories help us to know more about Him. Today we will look at one story in the life of Jesus as he was growing up in Nazareth with Mary, Joseph and his siblings.

Time to think

Jesus was surprised that His family didn’t know where he was.

Where else would I be but in my Father’s house – he said.

Jesus was telling us 2 things in this story – firstly he was confirming that he was the son of God, and secondly, he was telling us that with his Father – with God is where he wanted to be more than anything.

God is our heavenly Father too. How do you feel about that?

What are the ways that they spend time with him? What are some ways that you’ve seen adults spend time with God?

God wants to spend time with us more than anything. Let’s decide to spend some time with God this week.

Woodies Kids | Prayer Week Family Resource

Monday+%286%29.jpg

Sometimes we don’t find prayer easy -  we can get hung up a bit, tie ourselves into knots trying to work out how to pray “well” or “properly”, when in fact, it’s as simple as talking to our Father God.

The disciples had got themselves a bit tied up in knots about prayer too. They had decided they didn’t know how to do it, so they asked Jesus what the right way to do it was. They may have been surprised about His answer – He told them to stop praying like people who didn’t know God. He doesn’t need to hear long or complicated prayers. God knows what you need even before you ask. Then He told them to pray like this – and He taught them what we now refer to as “The Lords Prayer”. Although this prayer uses words and phrases that may not be as common or usual as words we have today, it is a very simple prayer, that takes the idea of religious fanciness away and invites us to come to God and talk to Him.

This Prayer week, we will focus on five parts of this prayer that Jesus taught.

Our Father in Heaven

Holy is Your name,

Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done on earth as in Heaven.

Give us today our daily bread,

And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the Glory

Forever and Ever

Here’s a challenge for you! Can you find time everyday this week to do some of these family prayer ideas? If you have more time, you can look at the other parts of the Lord’s prayer too.

Monday.jpg

Think about what it means to call God Father. Jesus says that we should call God our “Father in Heaven.”

· How is God like a father to us?

· Can you think of any other names we call God? I’ll start – sometimes we call God Lord. What else? What do those names of God mean to us?

· Make a list of the names for God and spend some time thanking Him for being Creator, Provider, Comforter etc?

Monday+%281%29.jpg

This means God’s name is holy and special because God is special. We need to honour God and remember how amazing He is. We turn our thoughts away from ourselves and onto God.

· Listen to this song:

o Spend some time connecting with God – why not draw a picture of worship to God – things that come to mind as you listen.

· Can you list the full alphabet of things you want to praise God for?

o A – You are awesome

o B – You made the beautiful skies

o C – You comfort me when I am sad.

Monday (2).png

Revelation (221:3) tells us a bit about what the kingdom of Heaven is like:

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever

Heaven is a wonderful place where God rules and all is good. Who doesn’t want to live in a world like that. The world at the moment is very different from that. We know how amazing and perfect God is and when we think of how God designed His Kingdom to be, we want that to happen right here and right now!  We want earth to be as amazing as heaven is.

· What do you think it means to see God’s Kingdom come on earth?

· What one thing can you do today to help earth become a little bit more like heaven for one person?

· Why don’t you try for a whole day to only say encouraging things? Or ask God to highlight one person who you can pray for today, for them to know how perfect God’s kingdom is. Is there anything you can do to encourage them?

Monday+%284%29.jpg

When the Israelites fled Egypt with Moses (read about this in Exodus 16) they spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness before they entered the Promised Land. During this time, God provided substance for them to eat every day in the form of bread they called manna. The Israelites had to rely on God each day in order to keep their bodies healthy. In the same way God wants us to rely on him to keep our lives and minds healthy. Although God does provide for our physical needs, we need far more than physical bread alone. We need the bread of life to survive.

Deuteronomy 8:6

‘People do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord”

We can feed our minds by reading the Bible and spending time with God.

· Take some time as a family and read through the Beatitudes and have a think about some ways to practice them.

· Why don’t you think about those verses whilst you make some flatbread

Flatbread Recipe:

· 1 cup flour ; 1 cup plain yoghurt/non-dairy alternative (this is about half a large pot) ;2tsp baking powder.

· Mix together to form a dough.  Split into two or more balls and roll out to less than 1cm thick.

· Put butter or oil into a hot pan and place the rolled out dough into it. Heat for around 4 minutes on each side, you will see it start to form air bubbles.

· Place on a baking tray in the oven at 200'c for 5 minutes

Monday (5).png

Today we are going to focus on the bit of the Lord’s prayer that says Yours is the kingdom. By saying this we are saying the God is the King.

Today we want to pray for our friends, for those who know that God is King, that they would experience God’s love for them during this time.

We also want to pray for our friends who don’t know that God is King.  We want to

pray for them to come to know that God loves them.  Why don’t you pick 4-5 friends that you want to pray for, you could do some who know God and some who don’t, then you could try out these prayer activities.

· If you have some lego, building blocks or jenga, write the name of your friend on a block and then each time you pray for them add another block and build a prayer tower for each friend.

· Make a prayer bracelet - Take a piece of string, embroidery thread or ribbon and either tie a knot for every friend or thread a bead onto it for each of your friends.  Each time you see or wear the bracelet you could pray for each of your friends.

· Why don’t you to draw a picture of each of your friends and put it on the fridge or somewhere in your room and each time you see their picture you could pray for them.

You could use this prayer for those who don’t know that God is King: -

“Lord Jesus, we pray that.... may know how much you love him/her.  May s/he come to love and follow you. Amen.”

You could also ask God to show you how you can share His love with them –

(maybe by sending them a card or a picture you made for them).

Woodies Kids | God is Unchanging

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

The names of Jesus

People make New Year’s resolutions because they want the new year to be different from the last. Maybe there is something they wished had happened last year that they want to strive to make happen this year. People always seem to want the new year to be better than the last. Do you have any hopes and dreams for the new year?

Do you think that God is different in 2021 than He was in 2020? It’s actually a bit of a trick question – the Bible tells in Hebrews the Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He is constant and He never changes.

Last year, we looked at some of the promises of God for us – do you remember? These promises that we looked at last year, are the same for us this year. Let’s take a look at them again

God's promises.png

Family Challenge

Can you work together to find 10 names or ways Jesus is described in the bible?

In Tiny Treasures we have been looking at the story of the lost sheep, Why is Jesus called the Good Shepherd?

Advent 2020: Week Four

Advent 2020: Week Four

Week+4+-+Peace+-+Front.jpg

The fourth week of Advent is all about peace.

When we read about the prophesies of Jesus’s birth, we hear him called many names – Prince of Peace is one. Jesus came to bring peace to the world and to our hearts. Peace is not the absence of conflict or of trouble, but it is a calm understanding – a deep knowledge inside that regardless of our feelings, whatever the circumstances around us, we know that it is God who is in control no matter what.

It is easy to look at the world around us and feel worried, anxious, and fearful. But the Bible tells us not to worry and to turn in prayer to God in all things. Jesus came to earth with His peace. He left us the Holy Spirit. We do not have to live with fear or anxiety alone, instead we can ask the Holy Spirit to minister to us with His peace.

· What is peace?

· How do you know if you are feeling peaceful?

· What are the things that take away your peace?

· What can we do when we feel our peace is slipping away?

· Is there anything you’d like to share with your family that is troubling you at the moment?

Respond:

In a season where every heart should be happy and light, many of us are struggling with the heaviness of life. We need His peace. We confess that our hearts are often full of stresses and anxiety. Jesus came to bring His peace. “Do not be afraid!” the angels told the shepherds. As we respond to this week’s devotional, we’d like to create space for you to pray as a family to welcome the Holy Spirit into your houses and bring His peace.

Listen to this song as you soak in His presence and pray a blessing of peace over one another.

Chat and Catch

Go and make the cosiest space that you can. You may want to go to your bedrooms, you may find a cupboard or a corner. You can use pillows or blankets.

Find a space that is just yours. But remember – God goes with you wherever you are. So, this space is yours and God’s. Spend some time chatting to God. Remember God loves you talking to Him about anything. You may want to tell Him about your day, you may want to invite Him into your journaling time. You may want to read your Bible with Him or listen to some worship music. This is your quiet time with Him. Ask Him if there is anything He’d like you to catch from Him today.

Advent Resources for Families

Advent with Woodies Kids

This year, our Woodies Kids team has put together some fantastic resources to help families celebrate Advent! Woodies families will have received their special packs in the mail - but anyone can take part online!

At Christmas there is so much to think about and so much to do, but it’s important in the midst of that to take time out of the stresses and the busy-ness and make time to gather together as a family. Make a space each Sunday in advent, maybe light a candle on your advent wreath and remember - Jesus is coming!

This month, we will explore together the traditional advent themes:
Hope | Love | Joy | Peace

These are a few of the good gifts God has given to us. During this advent season, let us remember and celebrate Jesus coming to earth as a baby, meaning we have a way to access and experience these gifts.

Our prayer for you is that in spending time together each week celebrating Jesus’s birth, we will together encounter more of Him and experience more deeply the hope, love, joy, and peace He offers.

How does it work?

Each week, families can take part by reading our Woodies Kids blog which will have a Bible reading to focus on; an introduction to the theme;  discussion questions; something to do together as a family and a way of responding.

Week+1+-+Hope+-+Front.jpg
Week+3+-+Joy+-+Front.jpg
Week+2+-+Love+-+Front.jpg
Week+4+-+Peace+-+Front.jpg

There’s also a Going Deeper section if your children are older - as you may feel that you want to spend more time exploring the theme for the week and so these activities are for you!

There is a Chat & Catch section too - Chat & Catch is a really useful tool taken from the Parenting for Faith course. A training video on Chat and Catch is available on our Woodies Kids blog.

Don’t worry about doing all of the activities or questions, but we pray that as you take time out each Sunday and focus as a family on the source of our peace, joy, hope and love; that you will meet with Jesus in a special way this advent.

With love and blessings,
The Woodies Kids team x

Advent Blog

Advent 2020: Week One

Week+1+-+Hope+-+Front.jpg

This first Sunday of Advent is all about Hope.

The candle is also called the prophecy candle because of all the prophesises in the Old Testament that told of the Messiah’s coming.  The people of Israel waited with hope because God had promised a saviour.  As Christians we know that God fulfilled that promise through the birth of Jesus Christ.

So, as we start to get ready to celebrate Jesus’ birth, let us remind ourselves of the bigger plan that He is part of and how much the world was anticipating Him even before Mary was pregnant!

Discuss!

Read two of the prophesies about Jesus:

· What does it mean to anticipate something?

· What kind of things do we look forward to?

· What were some of the things Jesus would be called?

· What does your name mean?

· How can we get to know God better through His son?

Respond!

Light a candle and ponder the wonder of Christ’s birth and rejoice in God’s gift of Jesus being born. Consider how Deity transcended time and space and entered into humanity.  Consider how Jesus, the Lord of Glory, humbled himself and came to earth; how the Royal One, the King of kings, entered into poverty.  And consider how, on that dark night centuries ago, True Light entered our world in the form of a lowly infant.  Give thanks for the Light of Jesus in your life and, just as John the Baptist testified of the True Light, be ready to be a witness to the Light of Christmas—the Lord Jesus Christ.

Chat and catch!

Make yourself comfortable, to help you concentrate close your eyes.  You could also write or draw these things if you would like to on a piece of paper or in a journal.

· Tell Jesus what you love about the Christmas story.

· Tell Jesus what you are hoping for.

· Ask God to highlight one of the names of Jesus from Isaiah 6:9 to you.

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 10 - Isaiah

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

Isaiah

So far in the last 3 weeks we have heard of 3 prophets who heard from God and gave a message to someone else for Him.

In all 3 of those instances, they didn’t have to wait very long to see God fulfil those messages. Jonah, spoke for God and told the city of Ninevah to repent, and they did – well, after he’d spent some time in a whale of course! Elisha, spoke for God and told Naaman to bathe in the river Jordan and he would be healed – and he was! And Elijah prayed for God to send fire – and he did! This week is a little bit different, because this week we are looking at a prophecy that took thousands of years to be fulfilled. In fact this isn’t just one prophecy. throughout the Old Testament, God spoke to His prophets and promised them a Messiah – their rescuer. The details were even pretty specific – All the way back in Genesis “The Messiah will be born of a woman”, Micah – “The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem”, Isaiah – “The Messiah would be called a Nazarene”.

The people had to wait a very long time to see this happen. But it did happen. Because God always fulfils His promises.

Time to Think

Have you ever had to wait for something for a REALLY long time?

Can you share what it was and how long you had to wait?

Do you find it hard to wait for something that is really exciting?

Ask the children to stand on one leg for a minute; when they think the minute is up they can sit down. Comment that time seems to pass slowly when you are waiting for something – even if it is only to put your foot down!

Say that when people were waiting for the Messiah/saviour/Jesus to be born time seemed to pass slowly – but God kept his promise! Because God always keeps his promises.

After 1 minute has passed, tell the children who was closest in their estimation.

Response

Read this list of some of God’s promises

gods promises.png

Spend a moment together to listen to God as you read these out. Is there one that you think God wants you to hear today? Thank God for His promise of sending Jesus. Thank God that because of Jesus we don’t have to wait for a prophet to tell us what God is saying. We can hear this for ourselves!

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 9 - Elisha

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

Elisha

You can find the story in

Elisha had trust and faith in God to pass on God's words to Naaman, and to believe that God would heal Naaman as God had promised. Elisha showed great trust and obedience in God. He was also brave as Naaman was an important man politically – any mistake could have been disastrous.

Elisha was Elijah’s apprentice. He also heard from God. He was a prophet. Remember, back before God sent Jesus, not everyone could hear directly from God. But we can! Anyway, Elisha also helped others encounter God. This time, he wasn’t even directly involved with the man! But, in this story there are 3 people who help Naaman meet with God. Listen to the story and tell me if you can work out who they are!

Time to Think

Naaman spent a lot of time deciding whether he should stay on the bank or jump into the river seven times to be cleansed. In the end Naaman obeyed Elisha's instructions and was healed.

In the story today, there were many people who helped Naaman by pointing him to God or people who could hear from God.

· Who told Naaman about Elisha? (His little servant girl)

· What might have happened to Naaman if she hadn't told him about Elisha? (He might have died)

· Did Naaman want to wash in the Jordan? (No, he wanted to do something grander, not wash in a dirty river!)

· Did God heal him? (Yes because Naaman did what God told him to)

Response

Explain that both the servant girl and Elisha Totally Trusted God. They knew God had good things to give to people. We can totally trust God to help and bless us. We can ask God to give good things to other people too.

Ask them to sit quietly and ask God to show them someone or something He would like them to pray for, before sitting down and doodling their prayer to God.

Have some sheets of paper, and colouring pens.

Suggest that as a way of praying the children doodle the name of someone they would like to pray for, or a situation e.g. school, on the piece of paper. The children can then decorate the paper in whatever way they wish – but in silence. They can pray and listen to the music as they doodle. A way of staying in God's presence and bringing a situation to God.

We can trust God to help us. Ask the children to think of one thing that God could help them with and then pray with them asking for God's help and His blessing.

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 8 - Elijah

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

Elijah

You can find the story in

Elijah knew what it was to hear the word of God and to be compelled to speak it out – even when it meant his life might be at risk.  He wasn't perfect – he got scared too (see 1 Kings 19) but his default behaviour was always to cry out to the Lord Almighty – the One who always has the answers.

Time to Think

Remind the children that Elijah was a prophet.  Tell them that that means he was someone who was tuned into God's voice and could hear Him clearly.  Encourage them that God wants to speak to all of us – we just need to listen carefully.

Explain that sometimes we might hear a voice in our heads, or get a picture in our minds, or be reminded of something from the Bible, or just know something that we can't explain, or have a feeling or emotion.  All of these can be ways of God speaking to us.

Response/prayer time

Get the children to lie down and get comfy.  Play some soft music you have chosen and ask them to listen carefully and ask God to speak.

Afterwards, try to keep the atmosphere calm and quiet and give the children some time to write down or draw anything that they heard or saw.

If there are any children that say they didn't hear or see anything.  Encourage them that sometimes God just wants us to enjoy being in His presence and that He doesn't need to say anything particular.

Explain that God always listens to us when we pray, and that one way of praying can be to write things down.  Give them some time to write a letter to God.  It might be to thank Him for something or to ask Him for something.  If the children struggle with writing, they could draw the things they want to say.

Tiny Treasures (under 5’s) did a different part of Elijah’s story about how God provided for him….watch it here along with a recipe to make.

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 7 - Jonah

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

Jonah

You can find the story in

Time to Think

· Why did Jonah not go to Nineveh when God asked him too?

(Jonah wanted to see the Ninevites punished as they were Israel's enemies)

Why did God send Jonah to Nineveh?

(The Ninevites were doing wicked things and God needed that to change – He is a just (fair) God. However, God's love and compassion is so great He wanted the Ninevites to have chance to change their ways so they could be forgiven).

What did Jonah learn from his experience of going to Nineveh (including being inside the fish)?

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 6 - Daniel

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

Daniel

You can find the story in

Daniel was a humble, hardworking, Godly man from Israel that was captured when Jerusalem was defeated by the Babylonians. God knew that Daniel had a very strong faith and belief in Him; God also knew that Daniel would give all of the glory to Him for whatever happened in his life.

Time to Think

· Who did Daniel love more than anyone?

· How did that get him into trouble on two occasions?

· How did Daniel respond to being in trouble?

· What did God do in each situation?

· Have you ever done something different because you knew it was what God wanted you to do?  What happened?  (Your own stories might be encouraging for the children to hear here.)

· Why was Daniel not hurt?

· Do you think believing in God made Daniel any less scared?

· Do you think God will look after us and protect us if we have to make scary choices for Him?

· What sort of choices might we have to make?

Response

Ask the children to suggest why Daniel was able to be different.  Explain that Daniel's heart totally belonged to God.  Ask them to suggest what kind of things might be found in Daniel's heart – for instance, love for God, loyalty, courage.

Ask the children to think about their own hearts.  Get them to write down things (qualities) that they would like to have in their hearts.

Ask the children to think about whether they would like to be different for God like Daniel was.  Ask them to think about where and how they need to be different.  If you could give them some examples for your own life, so much the better – for example: ‘I want to be different in the way that I talk to my friends – I don't want to join in with their gossiping any more'.

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 5 - David

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

David

You can find the story of David here:

The story of David and Goliath to help the children understand, no matter how small they are, with God's help they can do BIG things. After the story you can point out to the children that David believed God would help him defeat Goliath.

Message:

It doesn't matter how big we are, we can be like David if we remember that we are on God's team and that he wants to help us. God is bigger than any giant, the Boogie man, or a monster on TV.

Time to Think

What made David so brave? (He knew what the Israelites had forgotten: with God's help little people can do big things too!)

Was King Saul brave? (No. He looked good in his armour but inside he was too scared to face Goliath.)

Why didn't David use King Saul's armour? (David knew he was not big enough to wear the heavy armour. He wisely chose to use tools he was familiar with.)

Can everyone who trusts in God do big things, or was David special?

Response:

Is there anything that is a Goliath to you today? Can you share that with us? We can always come to God with our Goliaths. Shall we pray now?

This week we learn about David, have a song from Sarah and we hear from Ruth about ways we can pray and hear from God.

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 4 - Samuel

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

this week we focus on…

Samuel

You can find the story of Samuel here

Samuel was a young boy when he went to live at the Temple with the priests.

Samuel hears God in the middle of the night. What can we learn from this story about God choosing to speak, even to children. Can they hear God? Does He speak even now?

Time to Think

How can we know what God is asking us?

Have you ever “heard” from God? What ways can we hear from God?

What would you have done if you were Samuel?

Have you ever felt like you can’t really do much yet, because you’re just a child?

Join Lydia as we start our new series of videos. This week we learn about Samuel.

bible verse (3).png

Dear God,

Help me to listen out for your voice. Thankyou for always being there to listen to me,

Amen

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 3 - Gideon

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

over the next few weeks We will be learning about people from the old testament.

this week we focus on…

Gideon

You can find the story of Gideon in Judges 7

Today we look at the story of Gideon. Gideon didn’t feel like he was big enough or good enough for the huge task ahead of Him! But he trusted God and listened to God, and an army of 300 was able to defeat the full Midianite army!

Time to Think

What was unexpected about the way that Gideon and his men won the battle?

What was the reason Gideon won the battle?

Do you think it was difficult for Gideon to trust God?

Do you think Gideon was glad that he had trusted God?

Do you find it easy to trust God?

Is there anything you need to trust God with at the moment?

Gideon and his army must have felt as small as we do sometimes, but God was really interested in them and won a mighty victory through them. Can you think of situations where you have felt small or as if you are facing a big army? God will be with you in those situations if you ask Him.

Tiny Treasures have been learning about Noah this week.

Enjoy a fantastic retelling of the story of Noah by the Crow family!

bible verse (1).png

Dear God,

Please be with me when I feel like I can’t do things. Help me with Your strength,

Amen

Woodies Kids | Old Testament Characters Week 2 - Joshua

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

over the next few weeks We will be learning about people from the old testament.

this week we focus on…

Joshua

You can find the story of Joshua in Joshua 6:1-27

In this story we look at how Joshua’s faith and trust in God gave him the courage to do what he was asked to do. Joshua had a big mission and a big responsibility! He was probably scared but he knew that God was with Him and He trusted Him, listened to Him and found the courage to do what was needed. Joshua was brave and obeyed God even when the things He asked him to do were really hard.

Time to Think

What did Joshua do that was so brave?

Would you have fought a battle with trumpets?! Why did Joshua do this?

Joshua knew that God has promised to be with them and that they had to obey God and do what He asked. Even though marching around the city walls and blowing trumpets may have seemed a little strange, that was what God has told them to do. Joshua knew that with God on their side they would win.

God promises to be with us, like He was with Joshua.

We too can be brave in difficult situations because we know that God is always with us (we do need to try and to live in a way that shows we love Him). What does it means to obey God? It could mean living in such a way that shows they love God… living in the way the Bible teaches us to live.

Join Lydia as we start our new series of videos. This week we are learning about Joshua with Ellie

bible verse (1).png

Dear God,

When I am afraid or unsure in a situation give me courage and help me to be brave like Joshua.

Amen

Woodies Kids | Bible Characters Week 1- Joseph

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

over the next few weeks We will be learning about people from the old testament.

this week we focus on…

Joseph

You can find the story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50.

This week we will focus on the very beginning of Joseph’s story. We know that in the end Joseph was exactly where God wanted Him to be and that everything formed a part of God’s very special plan for Josephs life. However, lets think about Joseph in the well.

Time to Think

How do you think Joseph was feeling in the well? Have you ever felt scared or uncertain? Do you think Joseph knew/felt that God was with him? Have you ever known that God is with you? Is there anything you would like us to pray for now that you are scared or uncertain about?

Welcome To Woodies Kids!

Dear God,

When I am afraid or worried remind me of how much You love me and that You are always with me.

Amen

Woodies Kids | Self Control (Fruits of the Spirit week 9)

Welcome to the Woodies Kids blog.

This week we are thinking about…

Fruits of the Spirit:

Self Control

Do you know what the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ are? You can read about them in Galatians 5:22-23.

These fruits aren’t actual fruit, they are ways of acting or being that is pleasing to God. When we spend time with God by praying and reading the bible the Holy Spirit helps grow these fruits within us.

This week we are thinking about self control, watch Zoe’s talk (and a fun experiment with a doughnut!!!) on the video below, it starts at 7 mins 40 seconds if you want to skip straight to it.

Welcome to our Woodies Kids video! Join Ruth and Lydia this week for a fun-packed episode. We chat to Zoe about what self-control is.

Time to Think

What situations have you been in when you suddenly realise that you have done or said something you shouldn’t have? How about next time you find yourself in that situation stop and ask God to help you make a good decision about how you will act.

Don’t worry if you get things wrong, we all do. The good news is God is BIGGER than our problems. Here is an activity we did during prayer week that might be a good visual way to say sorry for things that have caused hurt or come between us and out relationship with God.

Dear God,

Remind me to ask for your help when I am in a situation and don’t know how best to act. Forgive me for the times when my words or actions have caused others to hurt.

Thankyou for always loving me,

Amen.

Dear God,

Please help me to have a gentle heart. Help me to think about how my actions and words can affect other peoples feelings. Help me to show people Your love.

Amen.
